Project Lead
SnapMaker and Cal Poly's ME Discretionary-Fund Allocation Committee (MEDAC)
Led an interdisciplinary team in the full-scale design and fabrication of the DJ R-3X Audio-Animatronic inspired by Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Oversaw project management, CAD development in SolidWorks, control systems integration, and hands-on fabrication, including welding and 3D printing. Mentored teammates in mechanical design, automation, and programming, guiding the project from concept through physical assembly.

Maddy leading a SolidWorks Workshop
Motion Programming
Used Bottango to model and test expressive head movement and animation sequences.

3D-Printed Shells
Fabricated full-scale animatronic shells using 3D printing to establish accurate proportions and housing for internal mechanisms.
Special thanks to our sponsor, Snapmaker, for generously donating a 3D printer and PLA filament to support this build.

Mechanical Design
Designed and refined internal mechanisms in SolidWorks, focusing on motion, fit, and serviceability.

Shell Assembly
Assembled printed components to evaluate overall form, alignment, and visual impact prior to system integration.

Control Systems
Programmed wrist articulation and waist rotation to enable synchronized, multi-axis motion.

Detailing & Effects
Integrated accessory elements, including LED lighting in the eyes, to enhance character expression and realism.
