Summary
In one month Cal Poly's CAPED was challenged to design and manufacture an escape room that would be played during San Luis Obispo's PolyCon.

The team took a trip to Locked Inn at Grover Beach to gain knowledge and ideas for our escape room.
We began by brainstorming ideas for our escape room

After finalizing our story line, we began to develop our puzzles.

We made a flowchart to help order and figure out which puzzles were going to be linear and non-linear.

We then mapped out were we wanted each puzzle to go in the room we were provided.
Then it was time to bring our ideas to life

My favorite puzzle was a missing pipe puzzle. Guests had to find the broken pipes scattered around the room and arrange them to complete the puzzle. Then guests would run a marble through the pipes which triggered a secret door on the bottom to open, revealing a potion.
We began by drawing out our idea.
We then cut and laid out our piping.

Finally, we assembled our puzzle in a wooden frame and began to test our mechanism.
Using a string and a mouse trap we were successfully able to create our pipe puzzle.

To unlock the second room guests must use the potions they found around the room or within other puzzles and put them in the correct order.

Once a potion was found, guests would use the potion menu and the guide on storing their potions to assemble the potions in the correct order.

Once in the correct order guests are instructed to flip over certain potions to reveal numbers, which are used to unlock the second room.

Dry Spell premiered at PolyCon and received amazing reviews and quickly sold out.
Guest began their experience with a quick informational video to set the scene.

Then guests were guided to the 1920's themed magical speak easy.

If guests were able to escape and open the final briefcase releasing the magic back into the world, they would be given tickets that they could redeem at the PolyCon prize center.

Overall Dry Spell was a success and we are excited to return to PolyCon next year with our new ideas and innovations.
